Why Hire a Coach

Why Hire A Coach? FAQ’s About Executive Coaching

What happens during a coaching session?

In confidential sessions, your coach listens to you.  I repeat, your coach listens to you. While listening, your coach asks questions to find out, at the end of the day, what you want in your business and your life, and how you can best achieve those things. Your coach respects your choices, making suggestions you are free to take or reject. Your coach challenges you, without pressuring. Your coach learns your values.

What is the value of working with an executive coach?

The coach helps you to know what you deeply value, so that you develop and accomplish goals that are in line with your values. Your coach holds you accountable to make changes or complete tasks you’ve decided are important to you, so you move forward faster. The coach challenges you to accomplish more than you thought you could. Projects that you have put on hold for years can finally happen. You design your life, and your actions each day work towards those goals, business, personal business or just personal.

Where are the coaching sessions held?

The sessions are generally held on the phone.  For Washington, DC area clients, they can be held in person.

How often are the executive coaching sessions?

The sessions are generally scheduled once a week (for a half hour) or every two weeks (for 40 minutes). Weekly sessions can mean that more gets done quickly, but sometimes twice-monthly fits a client’s schedule better, and plenty can be accomplished in that interval as well.

If I’m already successful, why would I need a coach?

You may be successful by some definitions, but ask yourself these questions. Are you happy, or are you feeling stressed? Are you as challenged as you would like, or is there more you feel you could accomplish?  Could your life be made less complicated? A coach can help you define “success” on your own terms, and achieve it.

Why does coaching work?

Coaching works because when you commit to the time and money spent hiring a coach, you want to get value from your investment in coaching and you ensure sure you accomplish the things that you set out to do.  Second, the more you accomplish toward your goals the more motivated you get.  You begin to set goals strategically instead of putting out fires and feel more capable and satisfied.

How long will I work with a coach?

As long as you are learning, growing and improving at the game of life and work, you can work with a coach.  Typically, I ask my clients to make a three to six month commitment and then it can go on from there.  Some of my clients have been working with me for 7 years.  They find it keeps them on top of their business and their lives.
