From lawyer to coach

For more than 15 years, I’ve been coaching lawyers, accountants and c-level business executives in how to be more effective in their businesses. Before that, I practiced law for 15 years.

I built my own law firm and represented 650 physicians and dentists. I later coached many of these professionals, helping with managing employees, and with practice and business decisions.

Accounting experience and professional development

Prior to practicing law, I practiced as a CPA for six years including working in the tax Departments of Ernst & Young and Laventhol & Horwath, both national accounting firms. While practicing full-time, I attended law school at night, so I know what it is like to juggle an impossible schedule. I’ve learned how to focus on what’s important.

I was the youngest member of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, and served on that board for 20 years. In college, as president of my college fraternity of 120 members, I learned about leadership, and realized the importance of following through to get things done.

Stress Management Expertise

As an accountant, and then as a lawyer, I learned first-hand how stressful a professional practice can be, especially for c-level executives managing many employees. I studied stress management to learn the best ways to handle stress. Now, I teach stress-management classes at the University of Maryland, and work with sports teams at the UM, including the 2002 NCAA Basketball Championship team. Of course, I also include stress management as a significant part of my coaching program.
